As you know we’re currently very keen on being green here at the OAE. It’s even extended to our recent photoshoot, where we indulged in a bit of recycling.

One of the ideas for next season’s photoshoot was to use white cut outs of instruments as we thought the projections would work better on them than real instruments. Rob, from designers Harrison & Co, had spent a long time making some fantastic cut outs of all the possible instruments we would need. However, after a few test shots this idea was ditched and we decided to go with the real thing. The cut outs lay discarded and unloved in the corner…

However during a break between photographing players the designers Chris and Rob and photographer Eric had a bit of a play with the cut outs and with the aid of some nifty lighting and what looks like some fishing line they made some really interesting shots.

The pictures didn’t really fit into the theme of the brochure though, so for a while we thought they might just remain interesting curiosities, destined to live in some far flung corner of the OAE’s server. But then – we came to design a brochure for our week of events at Kings Place, Baroque. Contrasted. and realised the pictures would be perfect. The designers added some colour to the pictures and they look fantastic. Below is a selection of them, and if you’d like to see a virtual brochure with them in you’ll find it here.

Well, it’s that time of year again. Ok, not quite *that* time of year exactly as we’re actually doing this years photoshoot much earlier than usual. The 2011-2012 season gets launched to the press in late January so we’re rushing to get everything ready for then. As with last year’s pictures we’re not going to give too much away, but this year’s shoot is about projection and personalities. We’re working with photographer Eric Richmond again, and designers Harrison. Today was the first day of the shoot, and it’s always a bit nerve wracking, seeing if the concept is going to work in reality. I can report that it definitely does. I’ve just got back to the office from the studio and here are a few pics from day one – taken on my phone so not top quality…

Following on from the previous instalment here are photographer Eric Richmond’s second set of favourite OAE pictures he has taken.

2000 – Mirror pics

2005 – Lilliputian pics

2010 – Gaffer tape pics

Our June OAE podcast is now here, and is, if we say so ourselves a rather good listen. In it, we take a trip to Glyndebourne, catch up with OAE Education Director Cherry to talk about our fantastic Creation project and related Family Concert, chat with Eduardo Portal, the current Melgaard OAE Young Conductor and finally we talk to Eric Richmond (photographer) and Chris Harrison (designer) who are behind our much-talked-about gaffer tape pics.

Or search for us on itunes.

Our latest podcast features regular OAE photographer Eric Richmond, who has worked with us for many years, talking about our new ‘gaffer tape’ pics. While we were with Eric we took the opportunity to talk to him about some of his favourite images from past seasons, and here are the first three – more will follow tomorrow.

1996 – Yellow pics

1997 – Sporting pics

1998 – Private passions

Well, the 2010-2011 season brochure is almost ready and will be out in a couple of weeks. So I think it’s time we started revealing the final pictures to you! We’ll be posting one at a time over the next couple of weeks. Hope you like, do let us know what you think. All were taken by Eric Richmond, and the design/concept is by Chris Harrison. There will be a chance to find out more about the pictures and design in a future podcast.

Today’s pic is of David Blackadder – Trumpet.

We had a great couple of days the other week at the photoshoot for next season’s brochure. As we speak the photos are being processed and the brochure designed so look out for it later next month. In the meantime here are a few offcuts from the shoot we thought you might like to see.

Today we had a preliminary meeting with our photographer (Eric Richmond) and designer (Chris Harrison) to prepare for the photoshoot for next season’s brochure which we’ll be shooting Thursday and Friday. We were experimenting with the gaffer tape (pictured!), and trying to perfect the lighting – it’s amazing how complex it is – trying to avoid shadows while also avoiding glare off the tape.  More from the shoot soon…
